Great East - June 28, 2008

We had 8 anglers (all  boaters) show up for the Great East tournament on a foggy overcast day.  Everyone caught quality limits of 3 fish (border lake rules) and all fish (18 LM + 6  SM) were released back out in the lake alive. There was 50.25 pounds of fish weighed in with the largemouth averaging 2.38 pounds and the smallmouth averaging 1.25 pounds. Clearly, this lake produces some quality fish. And everyone that showed up received some Quantum hats.

Don Conrad weighed in 3 quality largemouth with 9.84 pounds to win the tournament. Jim Murphy came in second with 3 largemouth weighing 8.12 pounds. Garry Woodruff was third with 3 largemouth at 6.86 pounds. David Guichard was fourth with 2 largemouth and 1 smallmouth for 5.75 pounds. Mike Nute weighed in 2 largemouth and 1 smallmouth for 5.65 pounds for fifth place.

Don Conrad (1st) and Jim Murphy (2nd)

Don Conrad had the lunker, a largemouth, weighing in at 3.70 pounds. We only weighed in everyone's big fish and all of the smallies were on the smallish size compared to the current lunker smallie.

Thanks to Steve Bosjlie for helping out during the weigh-in, he made things go a lot smoother. And to Chris Perry for being the release boat for the fish. And of course to Don Conrad for bringing the garbage can to help promote bass fishing by showing that we care about the lakes that we use for tournaments. Things run a lot better with help from everyone.

Winnisquam - May 11, 2008

While we only had 6 anglers (4 boaters and 2 non-boaters) show up for the Winnisquam tournament, the lake produced quality fish as expected. Even though we were under a 2 fish limit, it was predicted that 9 to 9.5 pounds would take the win.  Everyone caught quality limits and all fish (5 LM + 7  SM) were released back out in the lake alive. There was 37.43 pounds of fish weighed in with the largemouth averaging 3.23 pounds and the smallmouth averaging 3.04 pounds. That's not bad for 12 fish! And everyone that showed up received some Yamamoto swimbaits.

Michael Vining weighed in 2 quality largemouth with 10.46 pounds to exceed the estimate for win the tournament. Jim McGuire came in second with 2 smallmouth weighing 6.84 pounds. Tom Sardinha was third with 2 smallmouth at 6.13 pounds. Chris Martin was fourth with 2 smallmouth for 6.02 pounds. Don Conrad weighed in the only mixed bag (1 LM and 1 SM) for 4.93 pounds for fifth place.

Jim McGuire (2nd) with a couple of nice smallmouth

Tom Sardinha showing his 3rd place smallmouth

Michael Vining had the lunker largemouth with a 5.67 specimen. Jim McGuire weighed in a 3.47 pound smallmouth to get lunker smallmouth. Both of these fish are now leading in the lunkers for the year.

Thanks to Ken King and Tom Sardinha for running the tournament as Dave and I were down in Virginia. Also thanks to the hospitality of the new owners of Martels, not only did they lower the ramp fee this year but they opened up the gates and let us use their docks make the weigh-in and release much simpler. And if you look in the background of the pictures then you'll see the new state ramp (it's that construction behind the orange floats) that we'll be using for the 2-day in September.

Bow - October 21, 2007

We held second 2008 season 1-day tournament on Bow Lake on Sunday October 21, 2007. We had 12 come up and fish with us on a very nice day with temperatures around 70 and water temps in the low 60s by mid-day with just a little wind to help out things.  They were doing the fall drain of the lake but the water levels were more than adequate. It was a great day to be on the water with minimal boat traffic and an excellent turnout. We weighed in and released alive 31 fish totaling 56.89 pounds, with 2 limits being brought in to the scales.

From left: Jim McGuire (2nd), Michael Vining (1st ), Steve Bosjlie (3rd)

Congratulations goes to new member Michael Vining for winning with 5 largemouth weighing in at 9.55 pounds.  Jim McGuire ended up second with 2 largemouth and 1 smallmouth with weight of 7.24 pounds. Third was  Steve Bosjlie with 5 smallmouth at 6.89 pounds. Coming in fourth Don Conrad with 4 smallmouth at 6.40 pounds. And in fifth place was Dan Szumiesz with 1 largemouth and 2 smallmouth at 6.15 pounds.

Lunker Winners Dan Szumiesz and Jim McGuire

Lunker largemouth and big fish was a 3.55 pounder caught by Jim McGuire.  Dan Szumiesz had lunker smallmouth at 2.49 pounds. Steve Bosjlie won the first loser pool.

Thanks to everyone that came up, fished, and helped out to make things run well for the day. With the great turnout, I am expecting good things for the rest of the 2008 season. Our next tournament is planned for Winnisquam in May 2008, it should be a slugfest.

Pawtuckaway - September 23, 2007

We held first 2008 season 1-day tournament on Lake Pawtuckaway on Sunday September 23, 2007. We had 6 come up and fish with us on a very nice day with just a little wind to help out things but not enough to discourage all of the other boaters on the lake. It was interesting with the lake being down around a foot.

From left: Tom Sardinha (1st and both lunkers), Don Conrad (2nd)

Congratulations goes to Tom Sardinha for winning with 5 fish (3LM, 2SM) weighing in at 10.80 pounds.  Don Conrad ended up second with 5 largemouth with a net weight of 8.64 pounds. Third was  Steve Bosjlie with 5 largemouth at 7.72 pounds. And in fourth Garry Woodruff with 2 largemouth at 4.12 pounds.

Tom Sardinha showing off his lunker largemouth

Lunker largemouth and big fish was a 5.22 pounder caught by Tom Sardinha.  Tom also had lunker smallmouth at 1.30 pounds. Don Conrad won the first loser pool.

Thanks to everyone that came up, fished, and helped out to make things run well for the day. While I was hoping for a bigger turnout, we did much better than last year.
